Holiday Spotlight: Gifts with Double Giving

It's lovely when you know you're giving a gift that won't just sit in a closet or worse, be passed along in the next donation drive. Gifts that have meaning ordinarily also have function.

Then there are the gifts that not only are beautiful, meaningful, and functional, but also give back to causes you and your loved ones believe in. At Fashion Ethic, we strive to stock the shop with several choices of gifts and garb you can really feel good about. Here are just a few:

SPUN Organics A line of affordable and accessible 100% Certified Organic clothing for women. Each piece is a basic wardrobe necessity, but done with a little panache. The Wrap Dress and Cowl Neck Dress both feature 3/4 sleeves and skim the body. The Deep V-Tee, Scoop Neck, Rib Tank, and Boat Neck Top are layering essentials, while the Cowl Neck Top and Cardigan from SPUN both have flattering, long silhouettes. Not only is this line designed and manufactured with US fair labor, but the company also gives back through 1% For the Planet.

Sustainable Kids This is a fantastic line not only devoted to keeping the earth green and safe from pesticides, but also attempting to making that very world a better place. Sustainable Kids clothing is made with organic or sustainable fabrics and uses low-impact dyes, but the story doesn't end there. The company has partnered with the Hands and Feet Project, with $1.50 of each purchase supporting orphanges in Haiti. Not only that, but each item sold comes with a small postage-paid box so that the child receiving the garment can send a small toy, book, or toiletry item to the kids in need at the orphanages. Teaching the children of tomorrow to value their planet and fellow people - how cool is that?

Kee-Ka Organics We've been talking a lot about Kee-Ka as of late. This company makes adorable baby and toddler clothes and accessories using organic cotton and low-impact dyes AND gives product and other donations to St. Jude's and other Children's Hopitals in the process.

SIGG Everyone on your list deserves safe drinking water. SIGG is the leading PBA-free water bottle on the market and has become a hot commodity ever since Julia Roberts proclaimed "Everyone needs a SIGG" Oprah's 'Favorite Green Things' show. Fashion Ethic stocks the adult-sized sport bottles, kids' sized bottles, and accessories. SIGG is another member of 1% For the Planet, giving 1% of sales back to this organization that funds environmental causes.

Holiday Spotlight: It's the Little Things that Count

Give stocking stuffers and Hannukah gifts that really make a difference. At Fashion Ethic we've filled our shop with items that will be used and appreciated by everyone on your list for many years to come. These are gifts that combine style and substance to show how much you truly care.

For the Kids: Every kid wants to find a sweet surprise with their holiday treats. Yummy Earth Candy Drops and Lollipops are perfect because they were developed by two dads who wanted to find a good alternative to the artifically flavored-corn-syrup-heavy options. Yummy Earth is organic, uses only natural ingredients, and is kosher as well as being essentially allergy-free. The Moonjar Bank comes folded up, so it's easy to wrap or slip in a stocking. When assembled, it has 3 sections for "deposits" - Save, Share, and Spend. The lessons of sharing and of saving are more important now than ever.

For the Baby: Organics aren't just for food! Since your skin is the largest organ you have, it's just as important to care for what you put ON your body as you do IN it. Kee-Ka Organics makes tyke-size onesies, tees, and bibs in holiday motifs. Check out Kee-Ka and their Snowflake, Little Elf, and Shalom designs today!

For Her: Whether it's your mom, your sister, your grandma or your girlfriend, all the women in your life deserve safe cosmetics. Ko Denmark Organic Lotion uses natural ingredients and is paraben-free with a subtle jasmine and neroli scent. Tsi-La Organic Perfume Set contains four mini rollerball scents for mixing and matching - but it does NOT contain any synthetic ingredients! And what woman doesn't want one-of-a-kind jewelry to match her one-of-a-kind personality? The "upcycled" pieces we carry at Fashion Ethic are not only eco-friendly, but handmade and completely unique.

For Him...Well, For Everyone Really!: Reusable isn't just good for the planet - it's good for YOU too. The SIGG bottle is PBA-free, so you don't have to worry about chemicals leaching into water. SIGG's hard-to-find sport bottle is now available at Fashion Ethic as well as kid sizes. And going "reusable" can be good to your pocketbook too! As more stores begin to charge for disposable bags, or give credits for using reusable bags, a BAGGU Bag will pay for itself in just a few trips to the grocery store. It comes in it's own 5" x 5" pouch and makes an excellent gift for teachers, co-workers, friends and family (and yes, it just might be the only reusable bag we've seen that a man would want to carry!)

The Mercury is Rising...

Finally! Summer has arrived here in the Pacific Northwest. As people here flock to the water to stay cool, we wanted remind everyone, wherever you may be, how important it is to stay hydrated when the temperatures rise.
It just so happens that one of the safest and easiest ways to keep hydrated is the SIGG bottle, available at Fashion Ethic. It is BPA-free, lightweight, and keeps your water cooler than a plastic water bottle, which can also leach dangerous chemicals into your water.

SIGGS are hard to find these days...ever since Oprah and Julia Roberts talked them up on O's "Favorite Green Things" episode, the company has had a hard time filling orders. It just so happens that it's been one of our favorite things since last year and our stock is running low. So grab one while you can and make your life easier with the SIGG BOTTLE CLEAN tablets - just drop one in and it effervesces it clean...very effective as long as you've just been keeping water in there!

My Ethic Valentine

It's that time of year when many stores start pushing plush toys, big boxes of 'chocolate', and synthetic, heart-decorated undies as the answer to what your lovely is wishing for this Valentine's Day.

But if it's the thought that counts, we're not sure we like what these items tell us! May we recommend some gifts that take your Valentine's well-being into account...without sacrificing style, of course!

Guys and Girls: The SIGG water bottle is Swiss-made, a lightweight aluminum with fully tested food-safe liner. By now we've all heard that a measly 30% of plastic water and pop bottles are recycled, but have you heard about the nasty pthalates - chemicals used to make plastics 'bendy' - that leach into your water and disrupt your (and your lovie's) endocrine system? Some in the scientific community are blaming these nasties for rising infertility rates and obesity rates among humans - adults AND kids. We say time and again how we are all for those life-changing products, and SIGG has been one around here! Show your honey you care with a fab bottle from Fashion Ethic.

For the Guys: And speaking of leaching...much of what you put on your skin is absorbed into your body. So why buy a perfume with synthetic, possibly damaging ingredients? Tsi-La is not only all natural and organic, but has created a set of 4 mini roll-on scents so your Valentine can mix and match scents and you won't need to worry about picking just one to suit her! If she's not into scent, pamper her with a 100% cashmere sweater in shocking pink from Peligrosa Knits. It's hand-dyed with natural coloring, and it's on sale...what could be finer?
