Fashion Ethic Gives Back on World AIDS Day

December 1st 2008 marks the 20th Anniversary of World AIDS Day. The day is meant not only for remembrance and awareness about the epidemic, but also to celebrate the progress which has been made.

One of the major issues is agencies' commitments toward providing universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support by 2010. This is a vital promise, because drugs to manage AIDS may be readily available in Western countries, but had been quite difficult to find in developing countries, where the virus has ravaged entire towns. Progress has been made, along with increased education.

One of our favorite groups working to curb the spread of AIDS around the world is The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. As of mid-2008, with the fund's resources...

1,750,000 million people are receiving antiretroviral treatment

46 million HIV counseling and testing sessions were conducted

2.8 million orphans were provided with medical services, education and community care

To help them do more, Fashion Ethic pledges 10% of the day's sales on Dec 1st toward The Global Fund. So please, today is the day to be just a little more "Fashionably Responsible".

Spotlight Item of the Week: Sublet "Bianca" Cowl Dress

Thanksgiving is just a week and a half away! Before we know it, all the holiday glitter and glam will be upon us, which means it's time to plan your holiday party wear NOW.

The "Bianca" dress from Sublet Clothing is an easy dress to wear and can be styled in countless ways. Wear it over a long sleeve tee for a cozy-casual layered look, and when it really gets chilly, wear it over leggings or skinny jeans. Don't forget that it's equally stunning on it's own, featuring exquisite pleating and a generous cowl, with a beautiful drape, thanks to the organic cotton/bamboo blend.

The deep berry hue is definitely on-trend this season (and well into next year) and cheerful enough to wear year-round. Fortunately, this blend is the perfect seasonless weight: not too filmy, not too heavy.

So darlings, you'll get miles of style out of this one little dress. And as our spotlight item of the week, you'll save a ton of $$$ too. The "Bianca" is on special for this week only, $110 . You'll find it elsewhere for $165, which is still a killer deal, so hurry up and make it yours this week!

Goodwill Glitter Gala & Recycled Fashion Show

Last night was the Glitter Gala - the benefit and preview for this weekend's famous Glitter Sale at Seattle's Goodwill Thrift Shop.

The highlight of the evening was certainly the fashion show: “Past, Present and Future”, which was a collaboration between Seattle Goodwill, the Seattle Art Institute and Robert Leonard Salon and Day Spa. We LOVE the looks pictured at right, and not just because they're black and white (our signature colors). These garments are proof that a great cut never goes out of style.

All of the vintage and secondhand pieces featured in the fashion show will be on sale tomorrow and Sunday. For details, see our first Goodwill Glitter post HERE. And if you are so lucky to get your hands on the find of all finds, tell us about it. Just leave us a comment about your favorite vintage or secondhand score.

Happy shopping!
