How Safe Are Your Cosmetics?

We found this fantastic resource online - the "Skin Deep" database brought to you by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and the Environmental Working Group. Just search for your favorite lipstick, shampoo, fragrance, or any cosmetic product and quickly see how your product rates on the safety assessment scale of 1 to 10. And, if you're like us and discover your lipstick is a 7 (containing nasties like formaldahyde), you can reverse search any category by rating and find a new favorite lippy with much friendlier ingredients. Fair warning - this site is mildly addictive and more than a little disturbing!

While you're at the site, don't forget to sign the petition to Congress, calling for more stringent guidelines for cosmetic ingredient use and labelling. According to the EWG, a full 89% of ingredients have not been fully tested for safety. Some of those have been banned in the European Union, but are still commonly used here in the States.

At Fashion Ethic we continue to sample fantastic cosmetic and beauty lines in our quest to bring you the very best safe, effective, and luxe products this Spring. In case you hadn't heard, we are really excited about the Tsi-La Organics perfume set available at our shop right now...synthetic-free and organic scents you can mix and match!
